New Executive Director

The City of Wichita, in partnership with Botanica Inc., announces the hiring of Dr. Lynette Zimmerman to serve as the next Executive Director of Botanica, the Wichita Gardens. Zimmerman has over 20 years of experience in arts, culture and education, including most recently serving as the Associate Vice President of Kean University’s Liberty Hall Academic Center and art galleries.

The Executive Director of Botanica is responsible for managing Botanica employees and ensuring the most efficient operation of the organization, facilities and grounds. Botanica, the Wichita Gardens opened in 1987 and features 20 acres of gardenscaping, including more than 4,000 plant species, 50 sculptures and an annual attendance of more than 300,000 visitors. Botanica is a public/private partnership between the City of Wichita and Botanica, Inc., a non-profit founded to operate the gardens. Prior to joining Kean University, Zimmerman served as President and CEO of Key Elements Group, LLC, a consulting firm that assisted nonprofit organizations with revenue generation, organizational development and strategic communications. Zimmerman also has extensive experience serving on nonprofit boards.

“We are excited to welcome Dr. Zimmerman back to Wichita and for the next chapter of Botanica to begin under her leadership,” said Lindsay Benacka, Director of Arts and Cultural Services, City of Wichita. “Dr. Zimmerman brings a wealth of expertise to the position including a background in arts administration, development, and education and we look forward to her building a strategic vision for the future of the gardens.”

Zimmerman earned a bachelor’s degree in music performance from Wichita State University. From there, she went on to earn a master’s degree in arts administration from Drexel University and a doctorate in education from Fairleigh Dickinson University. Zimmerman will start on Monday, June 10.
