Reading: Flight Behavior by Barbara Kingsolver

In this compelling novel, Dellarobia Turnbow, a young mother in rural Appalachia, discovers millions of monarch butterflies roosting on the mountain above her town. This is a stunning sight, but it shouldn't be happening. Scientists arrive to investigate why the monarchs have strayed from their migration route, and Dellarobia finds herself caught between her community's skepticism and urgent warnings about climate change. This character-driven story beautifully weaves together themes of environmental crisis, family, education, and awakening. After our discussion, we'll tour the garden to observe migrating monarchs and participate in a monarch tagging activity, contributing to real scientific research on butterfly migration patterns.
